Today is a sad day for several residents of Moon Lake. At 4:55 PM several people witnessed the death of one of the loon chicks. It was run down by a boat pulling a water-skier. When residents tried to recover the dead chick it was run down a second time by the same boat. These people were apparently oblivious to the presence of the loon family that had been in that area since this morning.
Please let this be a lesson to other lake users that it is important to watch for the loons when they are on the lake. This incident proves that it can happen here; and unfortunately, a loon chick had to die to prove it!
I personally was very sad to hear about the Loon. I am certain it was accidental. Friday was a very very busy boating afternoon on Loon Lake and ensuring the safety of the skieers and boaters would be the number 1 priority. I am hoping people can reconcile this in a resonable manner and move forward. God blessed us with a beautiful day, great friends and for that I am grateful.
Oblivious or not, to run over the chick a second time is senseless. Can the DNR get involved?
Can you figure out who did this and ask them to please not kill any more loons?
