The Loons left the nest Sunday, June 21.  This was their second unsuccessful nesting attempt this year.  There is no obvious reason for this latest failure.  They had been sitting on the nest for 23 days.

The first attempt at nesting by the Loons ended early again this year, most likely due to the presence of “Loon Black Flies.”  They appeared to be off the nest on about the 15th of May.

The Loons returned to the nest and were first observed sitting on the nest on the afternoon of May 29.  They were not on the nest on the morning of the 28th.  They are sitting tight on the nest so things are looking good at this point.
