While most of the lake was open on May 8, the official Ice Out Date is May 9. The lake level at ice out was 1.93 feet, 4 inches higher than when the lake froze over last fall. After rains this week,the lake level this morning, May 22, was 2.08 feet, 1.8″ higher than at Ice Out.
On May 8 the ice finally went out and the loons arrived. We have a pair of loons and they have already been checking out the nesting platform. All the snow is gone except for a few piles from plowing and the roads are clear. After a low temperature of 19 last night we may be in for a stretch of relatively normal spring weather.
