Ice Over 2011

The lake was 100% ice covered on the morning of November 30 this year. Then we had a little less than 1 inch of snow that night so now we have a beautiful sparkly lake. Last year it iced over on November 28. The photo was taken early on December 2 with the temperature hovering around zero for the first time.

Pre-Thanksgiving Update

Ice is forming on a significant portion of the lake; however with warm temperatures predicted for Thanksgiving day and Friday, it will probably disappear on the main body of the lake.  Dale Sharpe took a final lake level reading on November 18 as the bay with the gage was starting to ice over.  The level was 2.54 feet.  That is 5.5 inches higher than at ice on in 2010 but 3 inches lower than ice out this spring and 6.5 inches less that our maximum reading on July 1, 2011.

We have had a couple of 3+ inch snowfalls this month, but it is likely that the snow will be gone with the warm weather later this week.

Other lake residents have seen Swans on the lake but yesterday was the first day I have seen one on the South end of the lake.  See photo below.

Happy Thanksgiving.
