We just heard from Mike Meyer of the Wisconsin DNR who monitors loons in Northern Wisconsin (and on Moon Lake, the loons do not know where the state line is located).  He said this hatch could be a record early hatch for the UP.  Here are a few photos.   [slideshow id=20]  

On May 2 or 3 the loons started nesting.  This is about 2 weeks earlier than last year and then they had to abandon the nest because of black flies.  Lets hope they have better luck this year.

At 5:30 this morning we heard loon calls for the first time this year so started looking for loons as it got light.  At 7:40 AM we saw 2 loons calmly swimming up the lake.  They were pretty far apart but appeared very calm.  Later, we saw them close together, diving so we hope this […]
