Attached are 3 great photographs contributed by Daryl Lannert. They were taken on September 1, 2012, in the evening. This was about the last time the chick, or an adult for that matter, was seen on the lake. The chick had been seen exercising its wings and attempting to fly since mid-August and was seen taking a short flight on August 27. It appears that one of the adults left in late August. We have had no reports of either the adult or chick since these photos were taken. Because the chick was hatched in late May, which is a month or more earlier than “normal,” we presumed that it has fledged and started its journey south. Thanks to all the lake residents who have provided information and photos of the loons this year.
